41% of Small and Medium Enterprises Plan to Purchase ERP Software in 2012 to Drive Competitive Advantage
- Openbravo Survey Reveals Importance of ERP, Cloud Computing and Mobile Applications for SMEs -
BARCELONA, Spain – 8th of November, 2011 – Openbravo, the agile ERP company, today announced the results of its recent Technology Priorities 2012 survey. Respondents to the survey were small and medium enterprise professionals from over 68 countries. The results offer insight into how members of the international SME community view the future role of ERP, mobile ERP applications, and the role of cloud computing for their business.
The majority of the users cited ERP investment as their top priority in 2012. In response to the question "What will your primary technology investment be next year?”, 41.5% cited ERP as their #1 IT priority, followed by cloud computing at 27.5%, mobile applications at 17.5%, and virtualization at 13.5%.
Regarding mobile access to ERP, 52.5% of respondents cited this as “important”, 35.5% "somewhat important” and 12% as “unimportant”.

The reason for this is that ERP fundamentally improves the ability of businesses to compete through greater efficiencies and transparent access to information--which results in better decision making during turbulent times.”
Openbravo’s survey also highlights the IT industry perception of some of the most popular technology trends. While Cloud Computing has become one of the main areas of investment for 2012, only surpassed by the ERP, open source appears as a basic part of the strategy for more than 50% of the companies. In fact, 28% of respondents stating they are "fully committed" to open source, while 33% are "committed". Out of the remaining 39%, 32% said they were "investigating" possibilities.
